The hole diameter size(dimension) of M16x1.5 is 16mm, with a clamping range of 4-8mm or 5-10mm for the electrical cable entry.

As one of the small dimensions of the cable gland, M16x1.5 is not widely used as M20 and M25, but some customers prefer this size as their choice, it’s equal to PG9, NPT1/4, and G1/4 in the clamping range, but just with metric thread type.
You could choose the M16x1.5 cable gland because it’s a much lower price than the M20 size cable gland, but just smaller clamping range(4-8mm), if your electrical cable is in this range and want low price cable gland, that’s your best choice.
If the installation hole size is M20, then you could use the cable gland reducer M20 to M16 to connect it.
